Restaurant Review - Luna Grill and Diner

Went to Luna Grill and Diner this weekend in Shirlington. I've loved this place for a while because it always reminded me of some restaurants I've been to in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food and menu haven't changed a bit. But over the past year it's atmosphere has changed subtly.

There are still the large murals of the Sun in the front, and the Moon in the back of the restaurant. However, now there are framed photos covering large portions of those murals. The used books lining the window are gone, as are the ecclectic pillows / cushons in the booths. Additionally, the music has changed from 80's alternative (Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode were often heard) to a 60's 70's soul mix.

We ordered:

  • Cheese and Fruit Plate: It contained brie, cheddar, and a creamy swiss cheese. With the apples and grapes, it was a perfect way to start the meal.
  • Chicken Marsala: Really good, especially considering it contains mushrooms!(YUK)
  • Spinach Linguini with pesto, sun-dried tomatos, and bacon: This make-your-own pasta dish was great since I ordered what I wanted.
  • Pecan Pie: WOW. Really one of the best pies I've ever had.

    Score:
    Atmosphere: 3/5
    Food: 4/5
    Service: 4/5
    Total: 11/15

Conclusion: Though the food is really good, the atmosphere is what always brought me to this restaurant. The score would've been two points higher (atmosphere = 5/5) if I had scored this a year ago.
