Restaurant Review - Del Merei Grill

This post is a bit overdue, but I had to get in to my review of this restaurant.

The Del Merei Grill is in the northern edge of the Del Ray area north of Alexandra. It's a neighborhood restaurant in an un-appealing strip mall, at the base of a mammoth (for the area) apartment complex. And boy, oh, boy, is this place good!

Once you walk in the atmosphere changes from strip mall to a warm and stylish setting, with a hint of funky. It can get loud as this place gets absolutely packed, and it's not that big.

The cuisine has a distinctly southern flare, and the emphsis on the menu is on the meat selection. They have other things (i.e. Salmon, or shrimp and grits), but if you want a decent cut of beef, served with the sauce and sides of your choice, this is the place for you. Oh, it has to be mentioned, their wine list is really good, and their appetizers, particularly the frickles, can't be missed!

We ordered:

  • Frickles (fried pickles) served with an amazing dill cream dip.
  • Strip Steak with horseradish sauch, served with cheese grits and macaroni and cheese
  • ??? (Another steak based dish, very tasty)

    Score:
    Atmosphere: 4/5
    Food: 5/5
    Service: 5/5
    Total: 14/15

Conclusion: Great restaurant, great food, it's definately a diamond in the rough - and the entire neighborhood knows it. It's a little expensive (i.e. $40+ per person) but it's worth it. I'll definately be back.
